The planning and the spatial arrangement of the house evolved mainly from the requirement of most of the activities being close to the ground as much as possible, keeping in mind private – public nature of activities. Most of the spaces used for frequent activities and circulation during the day overlook the central open to sky courtyard, which also helps in facilitating the natural light & ventilation.
Local granite stone has been used for foundation and CSEB’s (Compressed Stabilized Earth Block) stabilized with lime have been used for masonry & vault roofs.

Site area - 376 sq.m (4047 sq.ft)
The owner approached us when some part of the house was already built, which he wanted to demolish and start afresh. We instead proposed retaining the already built structure and develop the new design around it, which would also save time and cost.

Using the existing built structural grid as a canvas, spaces were allocated as per appropriate orientation. The living area sits at an angle to create a sense of entry and to direct circulation towards the house. The living and the dining area along with the roof vaults orient towards the north side.
